CEBU, Philippines - The City's Cultural and Historical Affairs Office (CHAO) is encouraging Cebu residents to send in their nominations for individuals and institutions that have contributed to the growth of the city and have advanced the welfare of Cebuanos.

CHAO will accept nominations until the end of the month.

CHAO officer-in-charge Bryner Diaz said that the city government wants to give credit to individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to the development of the city.

Those awarded as Outstanding Individual and Outstanding Institution of the City will be recognized and will be given a plaque during Cebu City's Charter Day celebration on Feb. 24.

"Giila sa dakbayan ang mga bulawanong buhat sa mga institution ug mga individuals nga sa ilang mga maa-yong buhat nakatampo sa kaayohan sa dakbayan ug sa iyang mga residents," Diaz told The FREEMAN.

To qualify for the outstanding individual award, he or she must be a resident of the city for at least three months and that person has gained honor for the city through acts of virtue, exemplary behavior, extraordinary display of heroism, among other moral principles.

In addition, nominees should have contributed to the growth, development and programs of the city and must not have received previous Charter Day Awards.

For outstanding institution category, the group has imparted ideas for the welfare of the city and must have devoted time, exemplary efforts and financial measures to the general welfare of the citizens without expecting for any reward.

At present, CHAO received two nominations for the outstanding institution category, while at least three have been submitted for the individual category.

Diaz said he could not divulge the names of the nominees yet, since this is still subject to the city council's approval that the nominees are indeed qualified.

He will reveal the names after the council's deliberation.

For those planning to send in their nominations, forms are available at the CHAO office at the Rizal Memorial Library and Museum Building, along Osmeña Boulevard, Cebu City.  (FREEMAN)
