Cop stabbed
CEBU, Philippines - A police officer was stabbed by a man believed to be under the influence of drugs in Barangay Kamagayan, Cebu City around 7:30 p.m. yesterday.
Police Office 3 Nelson Lagumbay was conducting police patrol with another cop when the suspect, 23-year-old Mark Solon, a resident of Borgonia St., Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City, saw them.
Solon immediately threw the two sachets believed to be shabu he was holding, apparently challenging the police officers to arrest him.
The police officers introduced themselves, but Solon allegedly took out a cutter and tried to stab Lagumbay in the neck. Lagumbay was able to evade the initial attack, but he was hit instead in the face.
After the attack, Solon tried to run away, prompting the other police officer to shoot him in the leg. Lagumbay and Solon were rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center for immediate medical treatment.
Solon will be charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, as well as grave threat and frustrated homicide. — (FREEMAN)
