CEBU, Philippines - Tanke, Talisay Barangay Captain Perla Cabanes urged the chief of the Talisay City Police Station to name the barangay official he earlier announced as a drug protector in the area.
Cabanes said it would be proper for Superintendent Emerson Dante to name of the drug protector in order for her to clear her name and those of barangay officials who are not involved in illegal drugs.
However, by not naming any name, Dante said he is also protecting the safety of the barangay official.
It was reported that there are barangay officials in the city who are involved in illegal drug trade.
Cabanes said this barangay official from Tanke asked him to drop the case filed against an arrested drug personality.
The police official said the presence of the drug protector is one of the reasons why the illegal drug trade in Barangay Tanke is still rampant.
He also said an officer of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-7 wanted the case filed against one of their prisoners dropped.
“Pumunta din but i discourage them also kasi bibigyan ko kayo ng second chance. Once na ipasok niyo nag sarili niyo madadali kamo diyan,” he added.
Dante disclosed that such incident did not only happen under his leadership but also during the time of the previous city police chiefs.
But he clarified that aside from Tanke, there are also officials in other barangays who are involved in the illegal drug trade.
Dante, however, assured that it is not Cabanes that he is referring to, even advising her to conduct her own investigation to identify the official of her barangay involved in drugs.
Mayor Eduardo Gullas said he is believes in Dante’s revelation.
“The new chief of police in Talisay, Dante I really don’t know him well, however he is a very decent officer and gentleman. If he said that he must have all the reason in the world because that’s no ordinary assertion,” Gullas said.
He added that he will talk to Dante and if the matter is proven true, he would also call the attention of Cabanes. (FREEMAN)
