CEBU, Philippines - The U.S. Embassy, through EducationUSA programming, provides great support for Filipino students interested in studying at schools and colleges in the United States of America.

The team of advisers, who were in Cebu last month as part of an EducationUSA Roadshow, works with students, families, and educators to navigate U.S. college admissions.

"I encourage you [students] to use these services if you are thinking about a graduate degree abroad. The team EducationUSA does not provide scholarships, but our advisers work with students to identify scholarships that would be a good fit," said Carolyn Glassman, U.S. Embassy Philippines Public Affairs Counselor during her talk on the "Importance of International Education" at the University of San Carlos.

The U.S. Embassy, finds the recent changes to the Philippine education system as more advantageous for Filipino students seeking international educational.

"The K-12 transition only increases the opportunities available to students," said Glassman.

Glassman's talk is in line with The International Education Week which is celebrated this year in 100 different countries around the world with a theme "Empowering Youth through International Education."

Glassman said that for this year alone, there were  1,043,839 international students, a record high, enrolled in U.S. higher education institutions in the 2015-2016 academic year.

The more than 4,500 accredited institutions in the United States come with varying sizes, affiliations, funding structures, locations, and academic strengths and priorities.

"I've often heard students express the desire to gain knowledge and new perspectives abroad and to bring their lessons back to the Philippines.  That is what international education is all about: sharing knowledge for the common good," Glassman further said. (FREEMAN)
