Whatever happened to reclamation project in the ‘90s? – city asks
CEBU, Philippines - A taxpayer is asking the City Government of Mandaue on the status of the 50-hectare reclamation project in Labogon that has been left idle since it was undertaken in the early 1990s.
Dr. Danilo Dionson, son of late councilor Magno Dionson, made the query before Mandaue City Vice Mayor Carlo Pontico Fortuna, who has been in the city council for years now.
In his letter dated November 10, 2016, Dionson requested Fortuna to furnish him a copy of the City Council resolution related to the project, land titles in favor of the city, and the subdivision plan of the city's share.
According to Dionson, the city, perhaps, does not know the location of their share from Kimwa Construction and Socor Construction who had undertaken the project.
"I believe this is the 'mother of all scams' in the history of Mandaue City," he said.
He noted that only the city abattoir stands in the area as he believes that the sharing scheme is not clear.
He said he heard that until now, land titles have not been delivered to the city.
"I would like to open up your mind how true these allegations and greediness must have overshadowed those pie-seekers and speculators," Dionson said.
Dionson cited the 34,452-square meter first reclamation project of Mandaue, of which businessman Ernesto Ouano Sr. was able to deliver the land titles within the ten-year period.
Under the partition agreement, the City got 25 percent or 8,613 square meters of the lot and Ouano got 75 percent or 25,839 square meters. (FREEMAN)
