Heightened security for Talisay’s fiesta

CEBU, Philippines - Security preparations are in order  in time for Talisay City’s fiesta celebrations this October 15.

Talisay City Police Station chief, Superintendent Aileen Recla, said they have heightened security to make sure that everyone who will take part in the feast day of the city's patron saint, Sta. Theresa De Avila, is safe.

Councilor Doroteo Emit, chairman of the committee on tourism, development and local and international affairs, earlier said they are closely working with the police to secure the fiesta activities.

Recla said she will make sure enough officers will be deployed during the activities, especially at night wherein there are lot of people gathered.

This includes the safety of devotees who will attend the fiesta novena.

Today, a fluvial parade of the image of Sta. Theresa de Avila will take place from Laray Church to Talisay Fish port until the Talisay Landing Beach front area.

Recla said she is also grateful to the barangay tanods in the city who have responded to her call to cooperate with the police.

She added that there are also civilians who expressed willingness to help the police in keeping the city safe.

Further, the Cebu Provincial Police Office has also deployed 20 additional personnel to help them during the fiesta celebration, she added.

Recla denied that the station received a bomb threat, specifically for the upcoming fiesta celebration. (FREEMAN)
