Praise heaped on LTO worker for pleasant ‘customer service’

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A government employee has caught the eye of the public for his charismatic way of doing his work despite the heat and the long hours.

A post on Top Gear Philippines’ Facebook page has netizens praising the work of Winifredo Miro of the Land Transportation Office in Cebu City. The post has reached 70,000 reactions as of yesterday and counting.

Some of the comments found on the post peg him as very accommodating and approachable, not to mention that he was always smiling. He even cracks jokes to keep the customers’ spirits up.

As a result of the post, many netizens also shared their experiences with Miro while they were queuing at the LTO office.

“At one point, when a female applicant’s last name was Robredo, he playfully greeted her, ‘Good morning, Madam Vice President’, eliciting a good laugh from those near his desk,” said Moses Abraham Pasco, the one who wrote the post.

Miro handled one of the LTO-Cebu City’s public assistance desks and was in-charge of customer service relations.

In his youth, Miro was a Sangguniang Kabataan chairman for six years. He then became a councilman of Barangay Ermita, a position he held for 11 years. After his stint in government, he then took a break. He jokingly said that he used to kick cans while waiting for a different job opportunity.

He started working for the LTO last November and since then he has been praised for the way he did his job.

Asked what could be the reason why he was earning admiration, he said it is important to create relationships with clients by entertaining their questions and giving them all the details that they need.

He said he does not want the customers to be inconvenienced, saying that it is not in his nature to make people wait.

Queried on what he liked most working in government, he said, matter-of-factly, that “there are lots of benefits and privileges.”

He does not enjoy the benefits and privileges he was referring to, though, as he was still a job order employee.

His earnings, however, already go a long way to provide for his four sons, the eldest of whom is in college while the youngest is still in his elementary years.

He even joked during the interview that he would gladly accept any job as long as it is not illegal. On why he does his job the way he does, he said it is for his family.

“We should dedicate our services to our families. In my experience, only through hard work will you be able to have results.” — (FREEMAN)
