Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The prosecutor’s office has indicted a man before the court for allegedly stealing the motorcycle of a Japanese National.Prosecutor III Aida Sanchez held Kevin Francis Garcia, 28, a resident of Gorordo Avenue, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, for trial for carnapping.

“Based on the evidence on record, there is reasonable ground to believe that the crime of carnapping has been committed and that the respondent is probably guilty thereof,” read the resolution.

Sanchez recommended P180,000 bail for Garcia’s temporary liberty.

Kumiko Noguchi, 41, a resident of Barangay Subangdako, Mandaue City, alleged that on July 21 at about 2:30 p.m., her Yamaha Mio Sporty motorcycle worth P40,000 was stolen. She parked her motorcycle at D. Jakosalem Street, in front of Protect Marine Deck and Engine Officers building, in Barangay Sto. Niño, Cebu City.

However, she said when she went out from the supermarket, she noticed her motorcycle was no longer there.

Noguchi reported the incident before the Waterfront Police Station.

The following day, she learned that her motorcycle was recovered and the culprit was arrested by police officers at Pardo Police Station.

“I immediately proceeded to said police station and when I saw a Yamaha Mio motorcycle parked near the entrance door of the said police station building, I positively identified it as the same motorcycleI owned,” she said, adding she was advised by the Pardo police to proceed to Waterfront Police Station to file a carnapping case.

Sanchez directed Garcia to answer the accusation filed against him but he failed. Thus, she resolved the complaint based on the evidence of Noguchi.  (FREEMAN)
