Province’s 2nd most wanted falls after 20 yrs
CEBU, Philippines - After two decades of hiding, the 60-year-old man tagged as the second most wanted person in Cebu Province is now behind bars.
Alejandro Aliviado was arrested by police in Barangay Pagsabungan, Mandaue City last Sunday afternoon for six counts of rape.
The P75,000 bounty will be given to the informant who helped operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 trace Aliviado.
Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, CIDG-7 chief, said Aliviado is facing charges for abusing his 30-year-old female relative sexually, six times in December 1995. Tayaba said the victim did not complain immediately because Aliviado allegedly threatened her.
She eventually came into the open when she could no longer bear the abuse and on September 15, 2000, Regional Trial Court Judge Benedicto Cobarde ordered Aliviado arrested.
For 20 years, Aliviado reportedly went into hiding in Manila, Laguna, Olango Island, Balamban and other places but, from time to time, would visit his family in Mandaue. He also used different names and aliases to cover his identity.
Tayaba said they monitored Aliviado’s movements for a month upon learning he is in Cebu. Last Sunday, Aliviado was on his way home from work at a construction firm when cops swooped in on him. He was reportedly too surprised to attempt an escape.
Aliviado denied the allegations and said he only touched the woman once. He said he and the woman was in a relationship at that time, which lasted for a month, and that he is willing to ask for the woman’s forgiveness if only to be free again. (FREEMAN)
