Carillo readies raps vs radio block timer

CEBU, Philippines – Cebu City Councilor Gerardo Carillo is bent on filing a case against radio block timer Nanette Garong who allegedly called him a “corrupt politician” on air.

Garong’s program is aired over dyLA.

“Iya man gud giingon nga corrupt ko nga pagkatao; nga magdagmal ko sa akong mga anak. Iya sad nga pasangil nga nagpasar ta og ordinansa kabahin sa positive discipline unya numero uno kuno ko nga violator,” Carillo said.

He said he was listening to the program when Garong, reportedly a member of Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK), made the statements.

“I think it’s time for her to prove that in court. For now, I’m preparing the affidavits unya ato ning isang-at. Tan-awn nato kun makapamatuod ba siya diha sa hukmanan kanang tanan niyang gi alegar,” Carillo said.

Carillo used to be a member of BOPK but bolted to join Team Rama under the leadership of Mayor Michael Rama.

“And I’m also preparing other cases nga atong gi-andam ug gi-evaluate sa atong mga abogado. Dili mani ingon nga nag-abusar ta sa atong profession isip usa ka lawyer but somehow some people has to be taught (with) a lesson,” he said.

He said Garong is one sided and her statements on air are “below the belt.”

“Kaning uban mo-appreciate man ta kay tagaan ta og panahon nga motubag naa may mga broadcaster nga tinuod mo-atake nato but they would call us and give a chance. Pero kani one sided man klaro gyod kaayo sa tanan unya below the belt pa kay apilon pa atong pamilya nga walay labot,” he said.

Garong, for her part, claimed what she tells the public are “mere facts.”

“Kung unsay akong isulti sa radio, mao na ang tinuod without any malice. Sometimes kini man gung tinuod sakit kaayo na. Unless namakak ko then akong atubangon. Importante man gud sa katawhan nga masayod kung unsay tinuod. I hope lang wala na gituyo to divert the issues niya,” she said over dyLa news.

Garong denied she is paid by BOPK.

“God knows and dyLA knows that this is my own program. I challenge Gerry Carillo to tell the truth and nothing but the truth. Not the truth according to him but the truth in the eyes of God,” she said.

“Gerry Carillo is a public official and is accountable to the people for his acts. Any issues arising from these acts cannot be taken as malicious. Media are the people’s allies against abusive public officials,” she added.  – /JMO (FREEMAN)
