Alcoseba to Capitol: Improve work of information office
CEBU, Philippines – Cebu Provincial Board Member Raul Alcoseba believes there is a need for the governor’s office to improve its media relations initiative by adding manpower to support the public information officer.
Alcoseba said he came up with the assessment after hearing comments from some media practitioners about the seeming lack of updates on activities of the provincial government.
“Kuwang kaayo ang information gikan sa PIO… ako ni’ng ipaabot ngadto sa gobernador,” Alcoseba said.
He suggested that Davide designate another spokesperson aside from Public Information Officer Ethel Natera to keep the press updated daily, especially if Governor Hilario Davide is not at the Capitol.
He compared the current situation to the time Gwendolyn Garcia was governor where “bisan magpalit lang og candy ang gobernador didto sa Medellin, mabalita na.”
Alcoseba also threw the same challenge to colleagues in the Provincial Board.
The criticism that Davide has done nothing for the province is what, Alcoseba, his ally in the Liberal Party is concerned of and improving media relations and sharing more of his activities is reportedly a way of changing this impression.
Alcoseba was the guest during the “Reverse Interview” Forum held at the PB Members Lounge at the Legislative Building organized by the Cebu Association of Media Practitioners headed by PB Member Grecilda Sanchez as its president in line with the Cebu Press Freedom Week celebration.
Alcoseba is also the sponsor of PB resolution proclaiming September 21 as Press Freedom Day in towns and component cities in the province of Cebu. —/JMO (FREEMAN)
