CEBU, Philippines - Assistance from City HallThe Cebu City Jail is asking the city government over P10 million for the operation of its male dormitory next year. The amount includes the augmentation of the meal allowance of the over 2,800 male inmates.
City Jail warden Jessie Calumpang said the facility needs the budget allocation to fund the “slight and distinctive adjustments of the emerging modifications” of the operation of the facility.
“It is our utmost desire to serve our clients and the public with quality service. With your help and assistance, our men and women in the Bureau would go a long way to persevere work and be successful,” he said.
In his letter to Rama, Calumpang said that he has already raised the problem to Councilor Dave Tumulak, chairman of the peace and order program of the city. Calumpang is asking for the continued generosity of the city government.
For the meal allowance, the facility is asking P10 increase in the daily meal allowance of the inmates or a total of P10.2 million for the whole year. As of now, the inmates have P50 meal allowance per day from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
The Police Coordinating and Advisory Council earlier passed a resolution seeking for the increase of the inmates’ meal allowance.
Calumpang also asked the city to increase the incentive allowance of the jail guards for male, female, and minor dormitories. He wants to raise the monthly incentive to P4,000 from the P2,500 at present.
Calumpang is also asking to increase the allowance of the liaison officers from P2,500 to P5,500. Aside from the allowances, the jail warden is asking one unit of generator set, five sets of i7 desktop computer with printer, 1,500 liters of diesel fuel per month, and 20 units of handheld radios.
Rama has endorsed the letter to the City Council which also referred it to the Local Finance Committee.— /FPL (FREEMAN)
