Three cops hurt in separate vehicle collisions

CEBU, Philippines- Three policemen landed in the hospital after they figured in separate vehicular accidents in Cebu City last Saturday.

Police officers 1 Diosdado Namang and John Mark Bongo, both of Naga City Police Station, were heading south when the motorcycle they were riding reportedly bumped into a taxicab along N. Bacalso Avenue.

The accident happened at around 8 a.m. on Saturday while the two just came from duty for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit.

Senior Police Officer 1 Dionisio Galo of Traffic Patrol Group said Namang and Bongo were onboard an XRM motorcycle and traveling along N. Bacalso Ave. when upon reaching corner M. Gochan St., a Toyota Vios Sedan taxicab suddenly made a U-turn.

Taxi driver Baring Paypa, 46, of Upper Mohon, Talisay City, was maneuvering a left turn when his vehicle was hit by the cops’ motorcycle.

The police officers were thrown off from the motorcycle due to the impact and sustained minor injuries. They were brought to Chong Hua Hospital and are now reportedly in stable condition.

The victims and the taxi driver will meet today at the TPG office to have the matter settled, said Senior Police Officer 2 Anthony Deligero.

About five hours later, another policeman was injured after his motorcycle hit a trisikad in Barangay PoblacionPardo.

Senior Police Officer 2 Miguel Enriquez, 44, who is assigned at the administration office of Pardo Police Station, sustained minor injuries as well as 22-year-old Marvin Romo, the driver of the trisikad.

Senior Police Officer 1 Ramil Yncierto of TPG said Romo was delivering mineral water to a customer with his trisikad when he suddenly crossed the road and ended up colliding with the motorcycle of Enriquez.

Both fell off the road and sustained injuries. They were then brought to Cebu City Medical Center and were released several hours later after being treated.

Meanwhile, a man died while his companion was injured after their motorcycle fell off a roadin Barangay Canlumampao, Toledo City that was undergoing construction last Saturday.

Police identified the fatality as Ramon Aurena, 45, of Barangay General Climaco, Toledo City and the injured victim as Fertilitodela Cerna, 28, of Basak-San Nicolas, Cebu City.

Aurena and dela Cerna were reportedly heading for Barangay Climaco at around 6:30 p.m. last Saturday when they reached the tip of an ongoing road concreting project in Barangay Canlumampao and fell off the road.

The victims did not allegedly notice the uneven part of the road as the area was reportedly unlighted.

They were rushed to Toledo City General Hospital but Aurena, who sustained serious head injury, was pronounced dead on arrival while delaCerna was treated of his minor injury on his right foot. (FREEMAN)
