Dismissal awaits cop caught sniffing shabu

CEBU, Philippines- Police Regional Office-7 director Chief Superintendent Prudencio Tom Bañas wants a police officer caught sniffing shabu during an anti-drug operation in Dumanjug dismissed from service.

Bañas said he will work for the immediate dismissal of Police Officer 1 Roland Sacan of the Dumanjug Police Station if he is tested positive of illegal drugs.

“Kung ang result sa examination sa drugs is positive, we will immediately work out for his dismissal,” said Bañas.

Bañas said that while he is quick in giving out awards to those who are doing their job, he is also quick to punish those who erring policemen.

“In fact, they should be punished more. Kasi ang gravity ng offense, law enforcer ka, number one ka rin na law breaker,” he said.

Sacan was arrested by his station colleagues Tuesday last week after he was found sniffing shabu inside a drug den in Barangay Bitoon.

The members of the Dumanjug Police Station were conducting buy-bust operation against suspected drug pusher David Quirante when they found Sacan together with Shery Kay Dupal-ag and Andrew Memil sniffing shabu.

Quirante and his cohort Ranilo Asentista were also arrested during the operation. The police seized 11 packs of shabu and a hand grenade from Asentista.

Criminal complaints have already been filed against the suspects, including Sacan, before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.  (FREEMAN)
