Contest set to aid seafarers who want own business

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Labor and Employment-7 is urging Filipino seafarers to take part in a competition that will help those who want to invest in their own business.

DOLE-7 is calling seafarers to join the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO)-International Seafarers of the Philippines (ISP) Business Plan Competition.

The competition is open to all seafarers, whether overseas, retired or returnees, who are interested to venture into entrepreneurship.

Agribusiness is strongly encouraged as a business plan idea, DOLE-7 said.

The promotional campaign for the competition will be on August 12, 2015 at 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the 3rd Floor, Hall A, Mariner’s Court in Cebu City while the competition’s deadline for entries will be by the end of this month.

A statement by DOLE-7 explained that the competition is a great opportunity for all returning seafarers to convert their ideas into a business plan and win cash prizes, which they can use as seed capital to start their own business.

Moreover, the business plan competition can be seen as a practical tool not only for building the capacity of returning seafarers intending to set up their own business when they return home, but also supporting the growth of jobs in their hometowns.

The 2015 NRCO-ISP Business Plan of the Year shall receive a grand prize of 500,000, which will be given in three tranches. — (FREEMAN)
