CEBU, Philippines - A man landed in jail after he slammed the head of a dog with a dumbbell in Barangay Lorega San Miguel, Cebu City yesterday morning.

According to the caretaker of the carwash shop where the incident happened, the suspect, Argie Navida, 25, arrived there at around 10 a.m. to have his motorcycle cleaned. Minutes later, he picked up a dumbbell he found at the area and, without reason, opened the cage where the Siberian Husky was kept and hit the dog’s head with the dumbbell.

After hitting the dog, Navida also ate its food.

Edwin Danilao of the Parian Police Station said bystanders ended up mauling Navida after seeing what he did.

Danilao said the dog is owned by one Michael Ian Cañete who also owns the shop. Cañete himself sustained bruises after he fell from his motorcycle when he drove fast to the shop after seeing what happened.

Cañete reportedly bought the Siberian Husky for P40,000.

“Pinangga kuno kayo na sa tag-iya iroa kay dili man gud na maldito nga iro,” Danilao said.

Navida, a mechanic of a cable firm, said he does not know why he did what he did but something was reportedly whispering in his ear to do it. He admitted to using drugs but said he did not do so that day, only the day before.

He is detained at the Parian Police Station

Danilao said Cañete is bent on filing charges Navida for violation of Republic Act 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998. – (FREEMAN)
