Capitol hands out P6M worth of aid

CEBU, Philippines - At least P6 million worth of financial assistance was handed out by the Cebu provincial government to 23 barangays in the south.

 The distribution at the Boljoon covered court was personally attended by Governor Hilario Davide III wherein 23 barangays in the second district received at least P100,000 each as financial assistance for their projects.

The amount from the Capitol’s development fund was approved through various resolutions by the Provincial Board during its regular session last March 16.

For Lumbang, Dalaguete, which received P500,000, Captain Benjamin Entoma said the fund has been earmarked for their multi-purpose building.

“Ang among tukuron nga multi-purpose building adunay health center sa ground floor unya sa second floor kay mga offices para sa barangay,” he said.

For Barangays Ubaub and Linut-od in Argao, which were given P200,000 and P100,000 respectively, the assistance is for the rehabilitation of roads and footbridges damaged by the typhoon Queenie last December.

In Calagasan, Argao, which was also damaged by flood from last year’s typhoons, the Capitol appropriated P500,000 for improvement of its creeks and brooks. Barangay Canbanua and Barangay Langub of the same town also got P500,000 and P200,000, respectively. 

Other barangay projects that are funded by the Capitol’s financial assistance include road rehabilitations and construction of public buildings like multi-purpose halls, day care centers and barangay halls.

“Kami dako og pagsalig kaninyo nga kining maong pundo, bisan ginagmay lang,  makahatag kini og kaayuhan sa mga kabarangayan aron makapahimulos gyud ang mga lumulupyo,” said Davide told barangay officials.

Second district Representative Wilfredo Caminero, who was present during the distribution, assured the barangay captains that there will be more basic services for the people from the Capitol in the coming days.

“Kining programa maoy motugkad sa panginahanglanon sa atong mga mag-uuma sa atong mga kabukiran. Kinahanglan ato silang hugpungon aron og naay ayuda gikan sa gobiyerno, dali silang makadawat,” Caminero said, referring to the “Basic Farm Implement for Marginal Farmers” program which he is planning to implement.

Under the program, farmers will be provided with basic farm tools such as bolo, trowel, spud bar and others.

The other barangays that received the P100,000 funding each were Boljoon’s Barangays Granada, Baclayan, Nangka, San Antonio and Upper Beceril.

In Dalaguete, Barangay Malones got P200,000 while MT Samboan also received P250,000.

In Samboan, Barangay Suba, Canorong and Basdiot got P200,000 each.

For Malabuyoc, Barangays Pob. Uno and Sto. Niño got the highest aid with P1,000,000 each, while barangays Salmeron and Sorsogon got P200,000 each and Barangay Tolosa was given P100,000.

Barangay Lambug in Badian town received P150,000. 

Meanwhile, the provincial government inaugurated road projects worth P3 million in Sogod town.

The inauguration last March 24, which was led by Davide III, included the road concreting projects in Barangays Cabangahan, Mohon and Lubo of the northern town.

In his speech, Davide said these projects are part of the provincial government’s thrust to open more farm-to-market roads for the benefit of local farmers especially that there are many of them in these areas.

“Kining dalan dili ni gikan nakong kwarta. Sa Kapitolyo ning gigamit sa pagpasemento niini kay misaad man kami kaninyo sa among pagpangumpanya nga kaning kwarta sa lungsod ibalik diha kaninyo,” the first-term governor said.

Apart from Davide, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale and Provincial Board Members Jude Thaddeus Durano-Sybico and Miguel Magpale were also present during the ceremonial inauguration.

Davide also promised to fund these projects in the future.

Barangay Captain Gina Montejo of Mohon thanked the province for the access roads, saying they will no longer have difficulty passing by the newly concreted paths especially during rainy days as these get muddy making each journey a torture.

“Di jud makaagi ang mga sakyanan kay moatras man tungod sa katangason ug kadangug panahon sa ting-uwan,” she said.

The province also funded a covered court for Mohon which was also inaugurated that day. —ATO (FREEMAN)
