CEBU, Philippines - The chief of the Asturias police died of a heart attack yesterday morning, the Provincial Police Office confirmed.

CPPO director, Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, said he learned about the passing of Senior Insp. Glenn Devocion through a text message. He said Devocion, 45, passed away at the Cebu Doctors’ Hospital.

As to what triggered the heart attack remained unknown as of yesterday but Gillamac said he suspected it might have been a heat stroke. He reminded police officers to take care of their health, especially with the advent of the mild El Niño.

He also encouraged them to exercise and to eat healthy to avoid hypertension, even joking that he himself need to slim down.

This could not be emphasized enough by Police Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina who visited the Police Regional Office-7 for a dialogue and awarding of deserving cops.

In his speech, he said policemen should have slender bodies and should avoid getting bigger.

“Kailangan nakakatakbo tayo ng mabilis… nakakahiya naman na naiiwan tayo ng hinahabol natin,” Espina said, adding, “Yung may malalaki ang tiyan, wag kayong malupit sa kanin.” —JMO (FREEMAN)
