Town VM succumbs to cancer

CEBU, Philippines- San Francisco Vice Mayor Allan Arquillano, 53, died of a rare type of cancer at a private hospital in Cebu City yesterday morning.

The Cebu Provincial Board, in its regular session yesterday, passed a resolution sponsored by Board Member Jude Thaddeus Durano-Sybico expressing condolence to the family of Arquillano.

“His service to the people of the municipality of which marked by selfless dedication that reached beyond the call of duty and by a visionary leadership that consecrated sustainable development and disaster-resilient community as articles of governance would survive even longer in the annals of the history of Cebu Province and in the memory of his constituents,” read the PB resolution.

 Sybico said Arquillano’s legacy to his people can be saluted as visionary and distinguished public service.

The municipality of San Francisco in Camotes Group of Islands belongs to fifth congressional district of the province which Sybico is representing in the PB.

Arquillano is the brother of incumbent Mayor Aly Arquillano and former vice mayor Alfredo Arquillano Jr.

 Allan was elected municipal councilor for three terms, president of the Association of Barangay Councils for one term and as vice mayor for nearly three terms.

 Under the leadership of the Arquillanos, San Francisco town won four times as Grand Champion of the E-Gwen Program, Grand Champion of Our Cebu-2014 and in the same year earned a Department of Interior and Local Government Seal of Good Governance and Housekeeping and reaped international prestige by winning the United Nation Sasakawa Award which placed the small town in the world map and in the center of global attention.  (FREEMAN)
