CEBU, Philippines- The chief of the Talamban Police Station received an ultimatum to eradicate illegal activities, particularly cockfighting, in his turf or risk being relieved from his post.

Senior Inspector Bienvinido Miral confirmed receiving the call from Senior Superintendent Mariano Batiancela, officer-in-charge of the Cebu City Police, last Saturday but said no timetable was given.

Miral said eradicating illegal activities in the barangay is a big challenge for several reasons.

First, he said, those involved reportedly preempt police operations that, often, subjects of operations are no longer in the area when authorities arrive. Second, most areas in the barangay are mountainous that they are difficult to penetrate, especially with the kind of vehicle the station has – a Toyota Vios.

Aside from Talamban, the neighboring mountain barangays of Agsungot, Guba and Pulang-bato are also under the police station’s jurisdiction.

“Gahapon, (last Saturday) niaso gud ang Toyota vios nga sakyanan kay tangason kaayo ang mga lugar,” Miral said, adding, they have already sought help from the Cebu City Public Safety Company for vehicles that used in mountainous areas.

Miral said he will do his best to meet Batiancela’s expectations but said he is prepared to leave the post should be fail.

Batiancela, for his part, said, “that order serves as a warning kay daghan naman gud ku’ng nadawat nga reklamo sa tigbakayan diha nga lugar that’s why gitagaan naku siya og order to stop sa tigbakayan.”

He said the policemen’s concerns will be tackled during the command conference on Wednesday.  (FREEMAN)
