Right timing leads to thief’s arrest

CEBU, Philippines – A 23-year-old Filipino-American landed in jail after he was caught in the act of stealing valuables by no less than his victims.

Zili Lin told the police he and his wife had just arrived at their house in 007 Genes Compound in Barangay Quiot midnight yesterday when they found Scutt Antonio Nelson in their room taking away their things.

As his wife ran out to call for help, Lin confronted Nelson but the suspect managed to climb up the roof in an attempt to escape with the items he stole. At this point, he also found a piece of wood and used it to hit Lin several times.

Unfortunately for Nelson, barangay tanods and neighbors of the couple arrived before he could escape. He was brought to the Puerto Princesa Police Station where police recovered the items he took from the couple’s room – an iPad worth P25,000; iPhone worth P10,000; one jewelry box worth P3,000;  and 11 high-end watches worth a total of P2,799,000.

Nelson will be charged for robbery and attempted homicide.  – /JMO (FREEMAN)
