Jean Marvette A. Demecillo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The water problem at the Cebu City Jail has been addressed for now.

This after the Metropolitan Cebu Water District and the Bureau of Fire Protection-7 provided potable water supply at the Cebu City Jail after the jail facility in Barangay Kalunasan experienced water problem since last week.

Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella called on MCWD and BFP-7 to help supply water at the facility until its water system is fixed.

“Somebody called me that there’s a water problem inside the City Jail kay naguba daw ilang water system machine,” Labella said.

Labella said he immediately acted on the information by calling jail warden Johnson Calub.

“We went there on Friday and I realized the need of water gyod,” Labella said.

Labella said he sought MCWD general manager Ernie Delco’s help.

“I immediately asked the help of MCWD for the potable water of the inmates inside the jail. I also asked the fire department to provide two trucks of water para naa pod magamit ang mga inmates,” Labella said.

The MCWD immediately delivered potable water supply good for three days. Labella thanked both MCWD and BFP-7 for immediately responding to his call.

“Hopefully maayo nato karon ilang water system but the BFP assured that they will provide two trucks of water per day until maayo ang water system. Ang sa MCWD pud, good for three days ang mainom nga water,” Labella said.

As of now, the City Jail has over 2,000 inmates that need clean water to drink.- FPL (FREEMAN)
