Gov wants roads paved before his term ends

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III wanted to have all major municipal and provincial roads paved before his term ends.

Davide revealed his wish during the groundbreaking ceremony of the P15-million Alegria-Kabangkalan farm-to-market road in Tuburan town recently.

“Mao g’yud na akong pangandoy nga sa dili pa mahuman ang atong termino, kadtong importante jud kaayong dalan sa kalungsoran ug kabarangayan maablihan man lang. Unya maaspalto ba o semento,” Davide said.

He said the project is very important not only to the farmers but also to the students.

Tuburan Mayor Democrito Diamante, Jr. said the project will ease the burden of the farmers.

He said the road is one of the most used in Tuburan, which hosts 54.5 percent of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ project in the third district.

“More than 1,000 hectares na ang natamnan og kape, ug adunay allocation nga 1,000 hectares sa plantation usab sa cacao,” he said.

The road caters to 12 to 16 barangays where the town’s 21 peoples’ organizations that are beneficiaries of DENR’s national greening project are located.

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist made an ocular inspection before the project got funding from the Capitol.

The governor’s uncle, Dr. Romulo Davide, leader of Farmer’s Scientist Training Program, said a good road link is a component of FSTP for fast and safe delivery of farm products.

For acting provincial agriculturist, Dr. Roldan Saragena, the road is vital to the economic activity in an area.

Also present during the groundbreaking ceremony were Vice Governor Agnes Magpale and Provincial Board Members Grecilda Sanchez and Alex Binghay.  (FREEMAN)
