80 motorbikes for police stations in Central Visayas

Ma. Fatima R. Secuya/JMD - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Police mobility is expected to get a boost with 80 new motorcycles set to be distributed to different police stations in Central Visayas.

The national headquarters in Camp Crame decided to send the units following the request from Police Regional Office-7.

PRO-7 director Prudencio Bañas said the 125cc motorcycles will be given to the stations once the paper works are done.

“As long as okay na ‘yung mga records, we can distribute these immediately,” he said.

The distribution depends on the mobility of a particular station, prioritizing those municipalities without issuances.

Bañas reminded the recipients that they should take good care of these vehicles, describing them as “a big help” in maintaining the peace and order in the region.

“Alisin natin ‘yung mind-setting na porke’t hindi sa atin, pababayaan na natin. Dapat they should be concerned about the status of their equipment,” he said.

Apart from the motorcycles, Bañas said they are expecting separate firearm and vehicle support to be used in augmenting security during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings to be held in Cebu between August to September.

Police personnel will undergo trainings in preparation for the APEC meetings, Bañas said.

Meanwhile, the Cebu City government last week gave a new patrol car to Cebu City Police Office intended for its Theft and Robbery Section.

This will help address the section’s problem of having a defective service vehicle for almost three years now.

Chief Inspector Senior David said they just use a borrowed car for their present operations.

David welcomed the new Hi-Lux 2014 model patrol car, which is still for registration but is ready for use.

“Dako kaayo mi’g pasalamat sa city government, labi na ni Ma’am Mary Ann Delos Santos, ang iyang opisina ang nag-initiate gyud nga ma-issue-han mi,” David said.

David is still hoping for another patrol car because he is planning to give the newly given patrol car to the Crime Scene Investigation Unit as they also don’t have a service car to use for their operations.  (FREEMAN)
