CEBU, Philippines - A vendor was shot by a driver who accused him of referring a girl who allegedly gave the latter a sexually-transmitted infection.
The vendor, Antonio Banguiso, 32, got hit at the back of his right shoulder and sustained a tangent shot in his Adam’s apple. The incident happened along Pelaez Street, Barangay Kamagayan dawn yesterday.
The suspect, Cerwin Jagonos, 23, was arrested by two policemen on patrol just a few meters away.
One of the arresting officers, PO1 Junrel Dublin, said he actually noticed Banguiso and Jagonos talking to each other prior to the incident. Moments later, he saw Jagonos pulled a gun out from his bag and shot Banguiso.
“Kalit ra kaayo to siya. Gatapad ra sila og estorya. Nakabantay ko niya unya nakit-an nako ang pagpusil,” he said.
Dublin said Jagonos used a silencer since the gunshots were not too loud.
“Di kaayo basag ang pagbuto niya,” he said.
Dublin and his companion on patrol, PO1 Mark James Mendez, immediately proceeded to the scene but Jagonos allegedly tried to escape. A brief chase ensued until Jagonos gave up.
The policemen recovered a .45 pistol, two magazines, nine live ammunitions of caliber .45, and three empty shells of caliber .45 from Jagonos.
Dublin said they subsequently learned why Jagonos shot Banguiso. Jagonos is reportedly new to the area. He is a native of Nasipit, Butuan and is presently staying at Upper Calajoan, Minglanilla, Cebu.
Banguiso, on the other hand, is a resident of Mana-nga, Tabunok, Talisay City. He reportedly can be seen often in Pelaez Street and is alleged to be a pimp.
Jagonos told the police he gave Banguiso P2,000 in exchange for a girl.
“Nagtuo siya nga maayo tong bayhana unya paggamit niya ato, wa siya kahibawo, nasira siya,” Dublin said. Jagonos reportedly could not remember when he transacted with Banguiso first.
Yesterday, Jagonos met with Banguiso again, pretending to pay for another girl in exchange for P2,000 that Banguiso allegedly demanded.
“Gabie nagkita sila balik. Plano niyang patyon sa kalagot niya nga nasira siya. Iya nang giandaman og kuwarta,” Dublin said.
Banguiso was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center by bystanders. He is now safe.
Jagonos is detained at the Parian Police Station and is facing charges for frustrated murder. — (FREEMAN)
