CPDRC inmates spend Valentine’s with loved ones
CEBU, Philippines- For the first time, inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center were able to celebrate Valentine’s with their loved ones inside the facility.
CPDRC has allowed family members to stay from 9 a.m. on Saturday until 3 p.m. yesterday.
Jail Warden Romeo Manansala told The Freeman that the jail management just wanted to give inmates the opportunity to celebrate the special day with those they love, an opportunity they rarely experience.
Manansala said the activity was successful and peaceful and CPDRC plans to hold it every year.
He said tight security was put in place and “everything went smoothly.” The visitors were required to present identification cards upon entering the facility. Visitors were screened while packages and belongings had to undergo strict security check.
It is also a practice of the jail to allow family members to be with the inmates during Christmas and New Year. They are allowed to stay overnight from December 24 until early morning of December 25, and back on December 31 until January 1.
The CPDRC houses more than 2,000 inmates, way beyond its 1,400 capacity. It gained popularity because of its dancing inmates. (FREEMAN)
