Bohol broadcast journalist shot dead

Ric Obedencio - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A radio broadcaster was shot dead by an unidentified gunman while inside his vehicle in Tagbilaran City, Bohol yesterday morning.

Police said the maroon Isuzu Crosswind was parked near the radio station where Maurito Lim was supposed to go on board at 11 a.m.

He was anchor of “Chairman Mao on Board”, a blocktime program over dyRD.

In an interview over dyTR, city police chief, Police Insp. George Vale, said Lim was declared dead at 1:15 p.m. by doctors at the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital located just near the crime scene.

He was hit in the left ear and the bullet exited in his right ear.

Police found a slug of a .45 caliber hand gun believed to be used by the assailant near Lim’s vehicle. The car’s windshield bore a single hole.

Initial investigation revealed that the lone assailant did not cover his face and used a motorcycle in leaving the area. The motorcycle was reportedly parked just near the radio station before the shooting.

Police are now examining the footage from the radio station’s closed circuit television camera installed near B. Inting Street, which may have captured the incident.

Vale said investigation will look into all possible angles, including Lim’s personal life.

Aside from being a radio anchor, Lim was also a businessman.

He was a member of the Bohol Tri-media Association (BTMA), which is headed by Peter Dejaresco whose family owns dyRD and the semi-weekly newspaper, The Bohol Chronicle.  — /JMO  (FREEMAN)
