52 infra projects set for implementation

CEBU, Philippines - At least 52 nationally-funded infrastructure projects in Cebu City will be implemented early this year.

The list of projects furnished to the City Department of Engineering and Public Works covers the “implementation of construction/rehabilitation/improvements of flood control and drainage system projects” along various national roads within the city.

 However, no amount was specified in the communication feeler. The Freeman tried to inquire with the District Engineer Fernando Cruz but repeated calls and text messages went unanswered.

 These road and drainage projects include the widening of M. Velez Street, Gov. Cuenco Avenue, C. Padilla Street, R. Palma Street, and Arellano Boulevard,  Carlock Street.

 Construction and maintenance of flood mitigation structures are also underway along J. Luna Street, Colon Street junction of Jakosalem-Junquera Street, and Circumferential road-F. Llamas Street, among others.

 Sidewalks along N. Bacalso Avenue (Junction Bontores St. to F. Jaca St.), V. Rama Tres de Abril Street (junction Alcantara St. to junction C. Padilla St.) will also be improved.

 S. Osmeña Boulevard, Cebu-Balamban-Transcentral Highway, Imus Road, M.J. Cuenco Avenue, Cebu-South Road (tunnel), Arellano Boulevard, Camp Lapu-Lapu Road, Gorordo Avenue, Colon Street, V. Rama-Tres de Abril Street,  Martires-Pier II Road, Cebu-Guadalupe Road, P. Burgos St., D. Jakosalem, Calderon St, and arterial road in Cebu-North corridor and their drainage will also be reconstructed.

 Doña Modesta St., Soriano St., Don Leon Kilat St., Talamban-Bacayan-Pit-os road will also be rehabilitated.

 Also part of the projects to be implemented are the riprapping in Barangay Sapangdaku, the widening of permanent bridges at Gov. Cuenco Avenue, asphalt overly in Cebu South Coastal Road, and reconstruction of national roads with slips, slop a collapse and landslide arterial road in Cebu Balamban Transcentral Highway.

 The other projects are the off-carriageway improvement of Salinas Drive, J. Luna Avenue, M.J. Cuenco Avenue intersection, Cardinal Rosales Intersection, Cebu-Balamban Transcentral Highway, M. Velez St., Magallanes St., V. Sotto St., Mabini-Lopez Jaena St., F. Gonzales St., Escario St., F. Cabahug Extension F. Cabahug Bridge, Salvador St., Katipunan St., Cebu North Road, Tupas St and Cebu Circumferential Road (Happy Valley).

 In a January 23 letter, Cruz said contractors are enjoined to install proper warning signs and barricades throughout the duration of work “to ensure the safety of the traveling public.”  (FREEMAN)
