Two men gunned down separately

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A trisikad driver was gunned down by a motorcycle-riding man Friday night in Barangay Sta. Ana, Barili town.

Aurelio Bayutas, 40, succumbed to at least three gunshot wounds.

Initial investigation showed that Bayutas, who was on his way home, was driving a trisikad past 7 p.m. with his wife as the passenger when he had to stop driving upon reaching an uphill road.

He got down the trisikad and was pushing it when his wife noticed a man wearing a bonnet and driving a motorcycle, apparently tailing them.

The motorcycle caught up with them and the driver shot the victim once.

The wife jumped from the trisikad and ran away calling for help from residents nearby.

As she was seeking for help, she heard two more gunshots.

She returned to the crime scene with responding police officers and saw her husband lay dead on the road.

The victim was brought to Barili District Hospital for autopsy.

The police recovered four empty shells of a cal. 45 pistol from the crime scene.

They have yet to determine the identity of the assailant and his motive in killing the victim.

In another incident, a man was also shot dead in Barangay Sta. Cruz, San Francisco town on Thursday.

Joveto Nudalo was sleeping with his wife in their house when an unidentified assailant shot him twice.

His wife, who was spared by the assailant, reported the incident to the police.

Responding police officers brought the victim to Ricardo Maningo District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival due to two gunshot wounds in his stomach.

Three empty shells of an undetermined caliber of firearm were recovered from the crime scene and forwarded to the Regional Crime Laboratory-7 for ballistics examination.

Investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrator and his motive.  (FREEMAN)
