Man shoots self, injures partner

CEBU, Philippines - A 31-year-old man shot himself and left his 28-year-old live-in partner injured at Sitio Pantao, Barangay Carnaza, Daanbantayan, Cebu Thursday afternoon.

Raymond Tora, 31, died on the spot after he sustained a gunshot wound to his head while his live-in-partner, Flordy Arriesgado, suffered from a gunshot wound to her right waist and was immediately brought to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Police Officer 3 Alex Ricarte, desk officer of Daanbantayan Police Station, said that based on initial investigation, Tora was having a drinking session with his two friends, Jovannie Arriesgado, 31 and Rejie Lastibada, 29,  prior the incident.

Flordy was sitting on a bamboo bench beside Tora while breastfeeding their child.

Ricarte said that Tora and Flordy were suddenly engaged in a heated argument.  Based on the testimonies of Tora’s friends, they heard Tora said “para mausa ang problema” followed by a gunshot.

They reportedly saw Tora lying on the floor holding a .38 caliber revolver.

Flordy also shouted for help saying she was also shot.

The police recovered the .38 caliber revolver, one empty shell and two live rounds from the crime scene. — Grace Melanie I. Lacamiento/ATO (FREEMAN)
