CEBU, Philippines - The Sinulog Foundation Inc. has discouraged contingents in future Sinulog Grand Parades from using huge props that may affect the production value of the performance.
SFI executive director Ricky Ballesteros said he had observed that some contingents in last Sunday’s Sinulog were using too big props that may have affected their performances.
“Ang ako lang na notice karon grabe kadagko ang ilang mga props. You know after the competition niubos sad ilang presentation, ang ilang production value niubos sad,” he said.
Ballesteros suggested that contingents should maximize the use of their props.
“Mao na ang akong sulti nila nga make sure kana inyong props makatabang sa inyong performance kay sometimes your props will ruin your presentation. You know visual effect, visual impact is just how many percent in the criteria,” he said.
Ballesteros encouraged the future contingents to focus more on how to improve their dances and concepts.
“I think it’s more on the dance, more on the concept,” he told reporters.
Ballesteros, however, appreciated the new concepts presented by the contingents this year. He said the contingents showed creativity in their costumes, props, and musicality.
“Ang akong ganahan karon kay daghan na kaayong bag-ong konsepto. Niya makita nimo nga very artistic gyud. And the positive side they were able to develop also mga talent ba in painting, sa ilang costuming, color combination and even ilang mga props makita nimo nga maayo kaayo nga pagka combine. Sa ilang musicality naa nay manganta including instrumentalist nanayaw sad kay part man sa production. Level up siya” he added.
Ballesteros said that Sinulog performances should attract international audience. — (FREEMAN)
