CEBU, Philippines - Four people died and five were injured in separate vehicular accidents in the province last Saturday.
Among those killed in the accidents was 2-year-old Carl Jay Cañete, of Barangay Tindog, Medellin, Cebu. The boy was brought by his parents, Zandro and Pablita Cañete, to buy milk in a nearby store together with his elder sister, Charry Mae.
They were on board a motorcycle driven by Zandro when they collided with another motorcycle driven by Renato dela Rama at 6 p.m. Saturday in Sitio Manan-aw, Barangay Tindog. Dela Rama’s companion, Edelfonso Fuentes, died on the spot.
Except for the boy, the rest of the Cañetes were injured and were brought to Cebu Provincial Hospital in Bogo City. Pablita was later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City.
Dela Rama, who was allegedly drunk, also sustained injuries and was confined in Bogo City.
PO1 Jose Inso, desk officer of Medellin Police Station, said Dela Rama and Fuentes came from a fiesta celebration in Sitio Hide-away, Barangay Tindog.
The police said Dela Rama and Fuentes could be drunk because their motorcycle was running on a zigzag. Witnesses told the police that it was dela Rama and Fuentes who collided with the Cañetes.
“Hubog na si Natoy (dela Rama) ikis-ikis ang dagan gikan og fiesta, kaning mga Cañete padulong ni mouli gikan nagpalit og gatas, nabangaan ni sila kilid sa dalan,” Inso said.
Meanwhile, two motorcycle drivers also died from a collision in Sitio Curvada, Barangay Banhigan, Badian town last Saturday afternoon.
The fatalities were identified as Domingo Calabroso, 65, of Barangay Banhigan, and Christopher Cueto, of Nasipit, Talamban, Cebu City. Cueto’s companion, Cerilo Guardiario, 32, of Dalaguete town, also injured.
Calabroso and Cueto were declared dead on arrival at the Badian District Hospital.
Initial investigation shows that Cueto was heading towards Barangay Poblacion, Badian while Calabroso was going to Banhigan when the collision happened. (FREEMAN)
