Cebu PB joins call for lower bus fare

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Board yesterday afternoon approved a resolution calling for the reduction of bus fares from the current P8.50 and P6, respectively, to a standard, uniform fare of P5.

The resolution, authored by PB member Thadeo Ouano, authorized Gov. Hilario Davide III to enter into an agreement with bus operators, Cebu Provincial Bus Operators Association and Cebu South Mini Bus Operators Association through their presidents Richard Corominas and Julieto Flores, respectively.

This resolution mentioned that sometime in 2008, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board prescribed the bus and mini bus fares for the Province of Cebu at P8.50 for the first five kilometers and P1.40 for the succeeding kilometers.

In 2011, bus operators executed a memorandum agreeing to a reduced fare rate of P6 for the first five kilometers and P1.20 for the succeeding kilometers.

This was approved by the LTFRB.

“Whereas, the prices of fuel continued to decrease since 2011,” read the newly approved resolution, as a reason for a fare rollback.

“Whereas, CPBOA and CSMBOA have agreed with the Province of Cebu to set the fare rate for bus and mini bus at P5 for the first five kilometers and P1 for the succeeding kilometers,” it added.  (FREEMAN)
