CEBU, Philippines - Barangay officials in Cebu City finally received their cash incentives yesterday for the third quarter of this year.

Barangay captains received P13,500; councilors P8,100; and secretaries and treasurers P5,400.

Punta Princesa barangay captain Jose Navarro said this is a big help for the barangay officials considering that they are the “frontliners” in their respective barangays.

He said he would share the money to his family and to his constituents as well.

Rogelio Resurreccion, a former barangay captain and present councilor of Barangay Suba, said he was glad to receive the amount.

“First, wala gyud tawng di malipay kon tagaan ka. Ikaduha, dako sad kaayo na’g gamit namo kay kami nasayod man gyud ang publiko nga bisan unsa nga kalisod ug mga kina-hanglanon sa among mga konstituente gani mo-exceed pa na sa amoang honorarium. Wala pa gani mahuman og kobra among honorarium, hurot na,” he said.

He added that he is also wishing for an increase if possible, considering the needs of constituents.

He assured that the money would not be wasted.

“Suma sa giingon sa uban nga usik-usik lang. Depende ra tingali na sa mga barangay officials,” he said.

According to him those barangay officials who are not seriously serving their constituents do not deserve the incentives.

“Naay mga barangay officials nga naningkamot gyud pag-ayo nga makatabang sa mga kaigsuonan, nitrabaho og maayo. Pero di na maayo sa mga barangay officials nga nangatog lang wala magpakabana ug kon pangayuan og tabang pabungol-bungol lang,” he added.

Based on reports, the distribution of the cash incentives for the barangay officials for the second quarter happened last August while for the first quarter, it took place in the month of May this year.   (FREEMAN)
