One dead, two others hurt in separate road accidents

CEBU, Philippines - Two persons were injured after a Sunrays bus lost control and crashed into the concrete fence of a house in Barangay Perelos, Carcar City yesterday dawn.

Ritchel Apundar,40, the driver of the bus, and Cirilo Villamor, 38, the bus mechanic, were immediately rushed to the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Carcar for medical treatment.

According to police investigation, the passenger bus lost control after Apundar applied the brakes.

The bus hit the fence of the house of Mary Ann Arnaiz located along the road.

Police Officer 1 Raymond Amance, desk officer, said that the Sunrays bus came from Barangay Bolinawan, Carcar City and was en route to Cebu City.

He said that fortunately, the bus did not have any passengers at that time.

In a separate incident, a man on board a motorcycle died after he was hit by a delivery van in Yati, Liloan Thursday evening.

Monroe Pitogo, a resident of Barangay San Vicente in Liloan, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center after the motorcycle he was driving hit a van driven by Felipe Sangutan.  Police Officer 3 Jason Gayo, desk officer of Liloan Police Station, said that Pitogo was driving towards the north while Sangutan was traveling to Cebu City.

Gayo detailed that Pitogo tried to overtake a ten-wheeler truck but unfortunately hit the van driven by Sangutan in the opposite lane.

He also said that the Pitogo’s motorcycle was able to pass through but his head got hit by the side mirror of the delivery van. After which, the victim was reportedly thrown away to the road. — Grace Melanie I. Lacamiento/ATO (FREEMAN)
