CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Association of Barangay Councils has turned over P12.6 million as its contribution for the construction of Cebu City Medical Center.
ABC President Philip Zafra said the council has issued a resolution authorizing the City Accounting’s Office to transfer the amount to the “Piso Mo, Hospital Ko” account.
Zafra said it was just recently when they found out about the amount, which was supposedly allocated for the salary of book and record keepers designated in every barangays during the previous year.
“We’re glad that pag-abot na sa ABC office, naka-save ‘ta og salary for the record keepers and in one of our meetings, we have decided nga itampo namo for the construction of the people’s hospital,” Zafra said, explaining that they were no longer able to trace as to when the said fund was set aside for them.
City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas said the Piso Mo, Hospital Ko fund-raising campaign for the hospital’s reconstruction has earned approximately P15 million as of September 24.
The amount excludes the coins and bills inside four large bottles that were distributed to stores and establishments in the city, said Cuevas, who was happy of the development.
According to Cuevas, there has been an increase in the donations every month.
“Malipay ‘ta kay naa g’yod ta’y increase kada buwan bisan og ginagmay,” she said, adding that the city government still needs more funds for the hospital’s construction.
Cuevas said the executive department is proposing for a budget allocation for the hospital in the 2015 annual budget.
“Wala pa ‘mi ka-determine kun pila siya, but among i-tackle by Monday,” she said.
The “Piso Mo, Hospital Ko” fund drive was launched by the city government last year following the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that severely damaged CCMC. (FREEMAN)
