CEBU, Philippines - A two-year-old boy died after he was hit by a car along the national highway in Barangay Sto. Niño, Malabuyoc town Wednesday afternoon.
Victim Luie Benlot died in the hospital where he was rushed after getting hit by a Mitsubishi Estrada (GFP-771) driven by Indian national Ajaib Singh, 35.
As per initial investigation, Singh, a resident of barangay Poblacion, Samboan, was driving towards Malabuyoc when upon reaching Barangay Sto. Niño, the boy suddenly crossed the highway.
As a result of the impact, the victim was thrown away hitting the pavement.
The boy was immediately taken to MJ Cuenco Memorial Hospital by his parents as well as Singh. He was declared dead on arrival.
Singh is now detained at Malabuyoc Police Station pending the filing of charges.
The police also brought Singh to the hospital after he experienced high blood pressure the following morning.
Meanwhile, on the same day, a parking aide of the Cebu City Traffic Operation and Management was injured after she was hit by a speeding motorcycle at Osmeña Boulevard corner D. Jakosalem Street.
Maria Edwina Purgatorio, 52, a resident of Kinasang-an Pardo, Cebu City was crossing the road to supposedly issue tickets to parking motorists when she was hit by a motorcycle.
The victim was thrown away and sustained injuries to her arm and leg. She was later treated at Cebu City Medical Center.
The unidentified suspect sped away after the incident toward Carbon Market without helping the victim.
Senior Police Officer 1 Porferio Lim of the Cebu City Traffic Patrol Group said they are investigating the incident to possibly identify the driver of the motorcycle. (FREEMAN)
