CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Board commended Cebuano innovator Pedro “Pete” Delantar Jr. for winning the “Tuklas Award” of the Department of Science and Technology during the 2014 National Invention Contest and Exhibition.
Two resolutions were passed by PB congratulating Delantar. PB Members Arleigh Sitoy and Miguel Antonio Magpale authored the resolutions based on the report of The Freeman about Delantar’s success.
The winning invention of Delantar was a molded coarse particle product with cast paper based reinforcement, basically a decorative fixture using castaway materials from furniture factory.
The contest was held during the recently concluded National Science and Technology Week celebrations at the SMX Convention Center where 56 entries were judged.
The PB said that the innovation continuously contribute not just to Cebu’s economy, but also in promoting the best craftsmanship and the talents of Cebuanos.
Delantar, the resolutions state, is not only a pride of the people of Compostela but of Cebu province and the entire Filipino race.
Vice Governor Agnes Magpale said that the innovation of Delantar and his using environment-friendly products will encourage other Cebuanos.
A separate resolution commending Delantar was also passed last week by the Municipal Council of Compostela.
Compostela municipal officials said Delantar played an important role in the economic development of their town. Delantar is a member of the Filipino Inventor Society and currently president of the Rotary Club of Cebu and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Compostela, Cebu Inc.
