CEBU, Philippines - A Korean national who was scheduled to return to South Korea yesterday landed in jail instead for allegedly hitting a woman in the face at a bar in General Maxilom Avenue, Cebu City.
Donghoon Mo, 22, was arrested by the bouncer at the bar after the woman, Jieralyn Alcontin, 27, asked for help.
Investigation revealed that Donghoon approached Alcontin at a table at around 4 a.m. and asked to join her. Moments, an argument reportedly ensued between the two, which irked Donghoon and punched Alcontin n the face.
Almores who saw the incident rushed to the table and held Donghoon back. He called for police assistance and Donghoon was turned over to the Fuente Police. A liquor test at the Cebu City Medical Center revealed that Donghoon had consumed alcohol.
Quoting Alcontin, Chief Inspector Wildemar Tiu, chief of the Fuente Police, said Donghoon had drunk the liquor and ate the food Alcontin ordered at the bar and told her that Filipino women only want money. This offended Alcontin and argument ensued until Donghoon punched her in the face.
Tiu said Donghoon’s case should serve as a lesson for anyone who visits Cebu or the Philippines. He said foreigners should respect local laws the same way that Filipinos respect the laws of the country they visit.
Alcontin is reportedly filing charges for physical injury while the police will charge Donghoon for violating the anti-drunkenness ordinance. (FREEMAN)
