DOE: Toledo Power Company’s project boosts energy capacity

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Energy has welcomed the synchronization of Toledo Power Company’s 1A Expansion Project to the grid in Toledo City.

DOE-Visayas Field Office Director Antonio Labios noted that the 82 megawatts power project synchronization was done ahead of the original date on October 2014.

Labios said this is due to the efficient execution of the preliminary works in the plant.

The TPC 1A Expansion Project is under Global Business Power Corporation.

“The new power capacity addition of GBPC will provide a signal to investors for future investment directions as more opportunities await for them because the government, in partnership with the private sector, is continuously paving the way towards a better investment environment” said Labios in a press statement.

The additional capacity will directly benefit industrial power consumers in Cebu, specifically in the southern portion of the Province and the rest of the Visayas.

Last July, during the Visayas Energy Forum, Energy Undersecretary Loreta Ayson emphasized the importance of energy in addressing the region’s economy, which in turn supports the population and area based development.

Since its commercial operations in 1968, TPC has been considered as one of the older power plants under the portfolio of GBPC, offering technical expertise for more than 40 years following word class standards.

Under its belt, TPC operates two power plants. The first being the Sangi Power Station situated in Toledo City, Cebu. The Sangi power station is a coal-fired thermal power plant using the atmospheric fluidized bed boiler technology.

With its rehabilitation, the Sangi Power Station has reached its maximum capacity of 60MW, augmenting power requirements in Cebu City. — (FREEMAN)
