Ban-Tal widening results by yearend

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is confident that the public will start to see results of the city’s efforts to widen the Banilad-Talamban corridors before the year ends.

“It has long overdue widening; long overdue recovering what is ought to be,” Rama said after a four-hour walkthrough from Barangay Bacayan to Talamban.

Rama said that he requested Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella to be the project in-charge of the road widening and convene a group that would bring key officials needed to pursue the result of the project as soon as possible.

Rama noted that traffic congestion is still being experienced along the Banilad-Talamban corridors in spite of the implementation of the “No Left turn policy.”

“Kana atong gibuhat sa Banilad-Talamban, I saw it in San Francisco, I think three kilometers ilaha nga no left turn gyud, pwerting layoa. Daghan kaayo’g poste nga no left turn,” he said.

Rama also noticed irregularities in the road measurement during the walkthrough. With this, he wants to remove the center island fronting the Gaisano Country Mall; move the Talamban Sports Complex, and fully restore the sidewalks.

He also wants to replicate what he saw in San Francisco during his vacation, that more traffic signages will be placed along the road to guide motorists.

Rama is set to meet with the contractor in-charge in the demolition of the fence of the University of San Carlos-Talamban Campus.

“I want to see the contractor kay walay temporary sidewalk bahalag maghuot nga mag-abot ang tawo kaysa walay barrier,” he said.— (FREEMAN)
