CPDRC inmate charged for drugs

CEBU, Philippines - The Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor has indicted an inmate of Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center for violation of Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act after allegedly transporting dangerous drugs from a court hearing to the jail facility.

Assistant city prosecutor Simaco Labata held Norlynn Suico for trial after finding probable cause for violation of Section 5, Article 2 of Republic Act 9165.

During inquest proceeding on Friday, respondent chose not to undergo preliminary investigation to answer the allegations filed against him. Instead, he manifested to face the charges in court.

The two small packs of white crystalline substance believed to be shabu were recovered from Suico, 40, during a routine inspection inside the jail facility.

The inspection was conducted after Suico came from a hearing at the Regional Trial Court Branch 26 in Argao town for a drug-related case.

The shabu packs were reportedly concealed inside packs of torta, the delicacy of the said town.

Suico denied any knowledge of the shabu in an earlier interview. He claimed that he simply received the packs of foods from his mother after the hearing.

Suico was jailed in 2011 after he was caught allegedly selling dangerous drugs.

Meanwhile, after the filing of complaint, Suico was then brought back to CPDRC.

If found guilty, he will be sentenced to a penalty of life imprisonment to death and a fine ranging from P500,000 to P10 million.  (FREEMAN)
