CEBU, Philippines - A man digging for garden soil in Barangay Yati, Liloan Thursday has found an ammunition cache believed to be remnants from the World War II.
SPO1 Bryan Batiquin of the Liloan Police Station said that the live rounds of ammunition for high-powered caliber of firearms were stashed in a sack and was buried under the ground.
Arnel Villamor was digging for garden soil for his child’s school project when he stumbled on it. Villamor immediately reported what he found to the authorities.
“Mahadlok ta sige og kawot unya mobuto pa lang unya,†Villamor said in an interview over TV5 Aksyon Bisaya.
Batiquin said that some of the ammunition are still good rounds but some are already dead.
“Ang uban dili na magamit tungod sa kataya nangakita na gani ang pulbura pero ang uban mobuto pa gyud,†he said.
Another resident, Efren Tabon, said that the place where the cache was unearthed used to be a barracks of the Japanese forces. In fact, they have also found tins before that were sold for P2,000.
“Barracks man kuno ni kaniadto sa mga hapon matud pa sa akong ginikanan unya basin ilaha ni unya sa paglabay sa panahon dia ra ngari,†Tabon said. (FREEMAN)
