CEBU, Philippines - Residents in some parts of northern Metro Cebu area experienced power and water interruptions after the Compostela-Consolacion transmission line of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines tripped off yesterday morning.

NGCP communication officer Betty Martinez said that the Transformer 3 in Compostela-Consolacion transmission lines tripped-off due to problems in the “settings.”

“It tripped off at 9:26 in the morning and was fully restored at 1:23 in the afternoon yesterday,” said Martinez.

Martinez said that the Compostela-Consolocion transmission line was initially restored at 10:00 in the morning using the other line in the Transformer 4, but it tripped-off again as the load was too heavy.

As a result, the 69 kv line of the Visayan Electric Company, which is connected to the said transmission line covering the entire Consolacion and Liloan franchise area experienced brownout at about 9:33 in the morning and restored at 11:15 in the morning.

VECO spokesperson Theresa Sederiosa said they resorted to a rotational brownout in barangay Pakna-an and Cambaro in Mandaue City from 1:04 in the afternoon until 1:30 in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District which is also dependent on the power supply of VECO to operate their water facilities and lines, announced that their Liloan and Casili facilities were also affected with the power interruption.

MCWD spokesperson Charmaine Rodriguez-Kara said that because of the power interruption, their water services in Liloan, Consolacion and Mandaue City were affected from 9:30 until 10:20 in the morning.

At 10:55 in the morning, the same areas experience another round of water interruption and as of 12:00 noon, water pressure started to build up, Rodrigez-Kara said.  (FREEMAN)
