CEBU, Philippines -  A budget of over P300 million intended for the development programs of the Cebu provincial government in the year 2013 is set to be realigned after it was found “unexpended” in 2013. The Provincial Board passed a resolution realigning the P302,530,140 from the unexpended 2013 Development Fund of the province, as requested by Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III, chairman of the Provincial Development Council.

The resolution’s author, Board Member Grecilda Sanchez, who heads the PB committee on appropriation, disclosed in the resolution that the present administration noted the unexpended amount during the evaluation of the Annual Investment Plan of the province for the year 2013.

The amount will be realigned to the programs and projects identified by the PDC.

The allocation includes social services amounted to P60.5 million covering the construction and maintenance of hospitals and birthing centers in the province.

An amount of P58 million would be for the Water Supply Development Program and P50 million for the rehabilitation and construction of buildings and resource center. Another P50 million will be for the financial assistance to local government units and civil society organizations.

A P40 million budget has been earmarked for the rehabilitation of 700 kilometers of   provincial roads and the PDC also set aside P50 million for the Study Support for Infrastructure and other Economic Enterprise Programs Needs Supplemental.

Each LGU will appropriate in its annual budget at least 20 percent of its Internal Revenue Allotment which is intended for development projects as mandated under the Local Government Code.  (FREEMAN)
