CEBU, Philippines - In a span of four hours, two persons died, including a 16-year-old girl, and three others were injured in separate motorcycle accidents in the towns of Alcantara and Dumanjug Sunday afternoon.
In the first incident, a high school student died after the motorcycle she was riding rammed a concrete electricity post along the barangay road of Candabong, Alcantara past 1 p.m.
Vengie Libato, 16, of Barangay Salagmaya, boarded a motorcycle-for-hire dri-ven by Bernard Diaz, 56, on her way home from Barangay Poblacion when they met the accident.
Investigation conducted by PO3 Ludiveco Odever disclosed that Diaz overtook another motorcycle while rounding a blind curve, which eventually led him to losing control of his motorcycle and hitting the electricity post.
Both were rushed to the Badian District Hospital but Libato was declared dead several minutes later.
Diaz voluntarily surrendered to Alcantara police chief, Senior Inspector Al Pascual after the incident.
Police found out that Diaz did not have a dri-ver’s license. He is now detained pending the filing of appropriate charges at the fiscal’s office.
Hours later, an overloaded motorcycle reportedly driven by a man under the influence of liquor met an accident along the national highway of Barangay Tapon past 5 p.m.
Marcelino Vibar, Edgar Jonggoy, and Jerry Jonggoy, all from Barangay Pawa, suffered injuries to different parts of their bodies and were rushed to the Barili District Hospital where Jerry was declared dead.
Investigation of SPO2 Florencio Clareon, of the Dumanjug Police Station, showed that the victims were heading to Barangay Poblacion when the accident happened.
Clareon added that Vibar lost control of the motorcycle.
The other victims are still recuperating at the hospital. (FREEMAN)
