1 dead, 2 injured in road accident

CEBU, Philippines - A 21-year-old man was declared dead on arrival at the hospital after the motorcycle he was driving bumped into a bus and was dragged nine meters away on the national road of Pag-utlan, Maslog, Danao City past 12:00 Saturday.

Maruen Holnanero of Carajay, Opon was driving his Honda XRM 125 motorcycle (8052QA) together with his back rider Jason Peñez of Cogon, Compostela bound for Danao proper from Lilo-an town when he accidentally hit a pedestrian coming from the right side of the road identified as Florencio Alcaria, 72, of Lahug, Cebu City.

Due to the impact of the accident, Holnanero lost control of his motorcycle and swerved to the opposite lane which caused him to bump to a southbound Ceres Bus (CHO 267) while his back rider was thrown away.

As a result, Holnanero was put under the front portion of the bus and was dragged away from the point of impact.

The victims were immediately brought to the Danao City Provincial Hospital but Holnanero was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician due to ssevere head and body injuries.

Peñez and Alcaria were transferred to a Cebu City Hospital for further medication.

The vehicles involved were temporarily impounded at the Danao Traffic Office for evidence and proper disposition.

Based on the results of the investigation, Holnanero was at fault of the said incident. (FREEMAN)
