Seawall gets repairs
CEBU, Philippines - To ensure that those living near the coastlines of Barangay Dumlog are protected from the big, disastrous waves, the Talisay City government has repaired the seawall there.
The report of the City Engineering Office, signed by assistant city engineer Gamaliel Vicente Jr., states that the repair, which included total riprapping, cost the city P5 million.
It was started in February and was completed this month. The seawall, which was built in 2009, was damaged by the super typhoon Yolanda in November last year.
The infrastructure was built to protect the residential areas and other properties from the big waves, which are a common phenomenon in the area during habagat season.
From 2006 and the years before the seawall was built, hundreds of shanties lining along the Dumlog coastlines were washed away by the big waves, prompting the local government then headed by mayor Socrates Fernandez to construct the seawall. (FREEMAN)
