CEBU, Philippines - A taxi driver was arrested Monday afternoon after a female passenger accused him of stealing her wallet containing over P100,000 cash and jewelry.
Arnold Villahermosa, 36, resident of Barangay Ermita, Cebu City, was arrested during a follow-up operation conducted by the operatives of Fuente Police Station.
Villahermosa, driver of KJ and J Taxi, admitted taking the wallet but denied stealing it.
“Natintal lang gyud ko sir kay gagmay pa kaayo akong mga anak, unya nahulog man ang wallet wala nalang naku giuli,†he said.
Irish Hui of Toledo City said she took the cab from the Citilink Terminal going to Sacred Heart Parish. She initially took the backseat but was asked to transfer in front because of tire problem.
Hui said she noticed that her wallet was no longer in her bag. According to her, she firmly believes that the taxi driver stole it because no other person was inside the cab.
Hui immediately sought the help of the police which recovered the wallet and the jewelry.
Hui said she will be pressing charges for theft against the suspect despite the plea of the latter’s wife. (FREEMAN)
