Lenten Security in Bantayan: CPPO to include road safety check

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Police Office has included in its security measure the road safety monitoring in Bantayan Island during the Holy Week.

The CPPO has noticed the increase in the number of road accidents in the island during the occasion when local and international tourists would converge.

CPPO Director, Senior Superintendent Noel Gillamac said they would also regulate speed limit and monitor motorcycles without registration.

“We noted an increase in accidents in Bantayan during Holy Week, labi na’g they are under the influence of alcoholic drinks, and driving motorcycles along the highway so, that is one of the causes of accidents,” he said.

Aside from Police Assistance Center, K-9 units would be deployed to detect explosives or any illegal drugs at wharfs, ports and terminals.

The CPPO would also increase the number of inspection areas in Hagnaya wharf in San Remigio from one to five.

Gillamac has directed the chief of police of San Remigio to assign more inspectors.

“They should assign more people para daghan sad ang mga ma-inspection, so that they can get inside the terminal na to get rest,” Gillamac said.

He said inspection would start on April 16 with K-9 units.

During the Easter Sunday, the CPPO would prioritize Minglanilla town where the famous “Sugat Kabanhawan” Festival is held. —/GMR (FREEMAN)
